John Klinedinst Receives Volunteer of the Year Award

John Klinedinst, President and CEO of C.S. Davidson, Inc. was named Volunteer of the Year by the York County Chamber of Commerce at their 2008 “Spirit of York” Distinguished Achievement Awards on Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at the Yorktowne Hotel.  John is active in Sertoma International in chapters in York, Hanover and Baltimore.  He is a board member of the YWCA of York and the York County Chamber of Commerce.  John is an active member of the Rotary Club of York, serving on several committees, and also serves as a trustee at York United Methodist Church.  In addition to his community activities John is an active member of several professional engineering organizations.

The award is given for “above and beyond” involvement in Chamber activities which distinguishes those members in a manner that is symbolic of those qualities cherished by the Chamber.

Clabaugh Named to Board of Watershed Alliance of Adams County

C.S. Davidson, Inc., an employee-owned consulting engineering firm with offices in York, Gettysburg, and Lancaster, is pleased to announce that Chad M. Clabaugh, E.I.T. was elected to the Board of Directors for the Watershed Alliance of Adams County (WAAC) April 23, 2008, at their Spring Banquet.  Mr. Clabaugh serves as the Project Manager and Project Engineer on a variety of topics including hydrology analysis and design, street design, land development, sanitary sewer design, and a variety of other municipal-related civil engineering projects.

The Watershed Alliance of Adams County is a member-based, non-profit organization whose goals are:  1. Help residents better understand the complex watershed issues affecting Adams County.  2.  Encourage sound water management and land use practices that will promote a sustainable watershed resource. 3. Support a county-wide water monitoring program and data base to use for evaluating water resources. 4. Identify and carry out watershed improvement projects. 5. Maintain the viability and sustainability of the Watershed Alliance of Adams County. (www.adamswatersheds.org)

C.S. Davidson, Inc. Employees Appointed to Governor’s Task Force

C.S. Davidson, Inc., an employee-owned consulting engineering firm with offices in York, Gettysburg, and Lancaster is pleased to announce that three of its engineers have been named to Governor Rendell’s “Sustainable Water Infrastructure Task Force” created on April 28, 2008, by an Executive Order of the Governor.  The Task Force has been created to report on issues related to cost effective and sustained investment in our water and sewer infrastructure, including assessment of current and future needs, potential funding sources and financing options for improvements.  The employees named to the task force are John A. Klinedinst, P.E., President and CEO, to the Needs Assessment Workgroup and the  Legislative/Regulatory Needs workgroups; David M. Davidson, Jr., P.E., Chief Financial Officer, to the Financial Resources Workgroup and Christopher W. Toms, P.E., Civil/Municipal Department Manager, Gettysburg Office,  to the Innovative Measures Workgroup.  A report of the Task Force is due by October 1, 2008.

The Board of Directors of C.S. Davidson, Inc. has announced several top leadership changes at the firm. The changes are part of the firm’s transition plan and growth strategy.

John A. Klinedinst, P.E. has been elected as the fifth President and Chief Executive Officer in C.S. Davidson’s 85-year history. “I look forward to the challenge of my new role, in partnership with my fellow employee-owners, in the continued success of our firm,” says Mr. Klinedinst. Employed at the firm for 37 years, Klinedinst was previously Senior Vice President/Chief Operating Officer.

In addition to Mr. Klinedinst’s promotion, C.S. Davidson, Inc. has made the following leadership changes:

  • -        David M. Davidson, Jr., P.E., the previous President/CEO, will continue as Chairman of the Board of Directors and has been named Chief Financial Officer. David has been employed at the firm, founded by his grandfather, for 34 years.  
  • -        William F. Sauers, P.E. was appointed Chief Operating Officer. Bill previously served as Vice President/Structural Services. He joined the firm in 1988 and has recently concentrated on geographic expansion of the firm. 
  • -        Richard G. Resh, previously Vice President/Administrative Services, was appointed Projects Administrator to provide corporate oversight to the firm’s Project Management system. Rick has been employed at the firm for 45 years.
  • -        Gregory L. Myers was appointed Chief Administrative Officer, and will be responsible for all administrative support functions including professional and technical training. Greg has served as both Marketing Manager and Human Resources Manager during his 9 years with the firm.

April 2008

The Hollow Creek Greenway has won the 2008 Governor’s Award for Local Government Excellence under the theme of Building Community Partnerships.  The award was presented on Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at an awards luncheon at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show Complex.Hollow Creek Greenway is an 8’ to 10’ wide 1.5 mile recreational trail located in Springfield Township, Loganville Borough and Jacobus Borough.  C. S. Davidson, Inc. worked as Project Manager during the design phase of the trail including coauthoring the Master Plan with landscape architect Mary Kline to investigate all aspects of the construction of the trail.  C.S. Davidson will continue to provide project management services during construction.   The Hollow Creek Greenway which will be used by equestrians and bicyclists as well as pedestrians will serve as a recreational trail that joins neighborhoods, parks and schools in Springfield Township, Loganville Borough and Jacobus Borough.  The projected completion date of the trail is August of this year. Future plans are to connect the greenway to other trails, neighborhoods and the York County Rail Trail.Funding for the project is being provided by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, the Federal Highway Administration’s Transportation Enhancement Program through the Safe Routes to School Program.  The project also received Growing Greener II funds.  Springfield Township funded the creation of the Master Plan.

May 2007:

C.S. Davidson, Inc. was selected by Leadership York as the recipient of the 2007 Outstanding Business of the Year award. The award is presented to a business that shows commitment to leadership development and community involvement.

February 2007:

The Lower Windsor Township Municipal Building received the 2007 Green Building Association of Central PA Design Award for Water Efficiency. C.S. Davidson, Inc. provided design services for the project, which also attained LEED – NC v2 Silver status.

July 2006:

The Martin Library Renovation and Expansion project was selected as a winner at the 2006 ABC Excellence in Construction Awards. Funded privately, this project encompassed a renovation of the original library – built in 1935, expansion into a next-door brownstone home built in 1866, and “infill” between the two buildings. C. S. Davidson, Inc. worked to marry this structure to the adjacent brownstone building while expanding it into a new four-story addition which was constructed in a rear courtyard.

June 2006:

The Martin Library Renovation and Expansion project was also selected as a Silver Award winner at the 10,000 Friends of Pennsylvania Design Awards in 2006.

May 2006:

The York Township Municipal Complex received an Honorable Mention in Metal Architecture Magazine’s 2005 Design Awards Competition. C.S. Davidson worked as a subconsultant to LSC Design, Inc. on the project, which consists of four separate buildings: an office and administrative building, a vehicle and public works building, a service building, and a bulk storage building.

April 2006:

The Trout School Road Bridge Replacement project won 2nd Runner Up in the 2005 Road and Bridge Safety Improvement Awards. The award winners were chosen by a panel of judges representing PHIA, PENNDOT, and PSATS. C.S. Davidson provided design services for the project, which was recognized for improving drainage and safety for motorists traveling on Trout School Road.

November 2007:

The U.S. Green Building Council awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certifications to two projects for which C.S. Davidson provided design services. The LEED program was created to define "green building" by establishing a common standard of measurement that recognizes environmental leadership in the building industry and promotes integrated, whole-building design practices.
The LEED Green Building Rating System® is a voluntary, national standard created to assess and recognize high-performance sustainable buildings. The two C.S. Davidson projects selected are the Lower Windsor Township Community Center in Wrightsville, PA, and the Southern York County Library in Shrewsbury, PA:

The Lower Windsor Township Community Center was awarded LEED - NC v2 Silver status under the LEED Green Building Rating System. This building is the first municipally-owned building in the state of Pennsylvania to receive LEED certification.

The Southern York County Library as awarded LEED-NCv2 Certified status.

October 2007:

C.S. DAVIDSON, INC. was selected for the sixth consecutive year as one of the Best Places to Work in PA. This accomplishment is even more significant considering only nine companies state-wide have been selected continuously from 2000 to 2005 and C.S. Davidson is a member of this select group. The exact order of ranking will be announced at the Awards Dinner in November. Congratulations to the employee owners who work so hard to make us worthy of this honor.
 

The PA/Delaware Chapter of the ESOP Association recognized C.S. Davidson as the ESOP Company of the Year for 2005 at their recent conference. The company submitted a paper that outlined the history and transition from family-ownership to employee-ownership. The firm was recognized for its involvement with the national ESOP Association and the PA/Delaware Chapter activities and has sent employees to both conferences since becoming an ESOP.

Josh Carney, P.E., received the PA/Delaware Chapter Employee-Owner of the Year Award for 2005. Josh, Past ESOP Communication Committee Chairperson, was selected by his peers for his involvement and advocacy with legislators on behalf of both the regional chapter and national association throughout the past year. Josh was presented with the award at the PA/Delaware Chapter Conference.

August 2005:

York Township Municipal Complex in York, PA was recognized with a Design Award in the Metal Buildings category by the metalarchitecture publication. The complex completed in December 2004, consists of four buildings all designed according to function. Because the complex was built on the site of a former farm, as agricultural vernacular was deemed most appropriate for the buildings’ design. C.S. Davidson teamed with the Architect, LSC Design Inc. On the project.
 

February 2005:

C. S. Davidson, Inc. was recognized by the Gettysburg-Adams Chamber of Commerce with the inaugural Business and Industry Recognition Award for C. S. Davidson's involvement with the Gettysburg Borough Skate Park as well as other community projects.

                    

October 2004:

C. S. Davidson, Inc. was selected for the fifth consecutive year as one of the 50 Best Places to Work in PA in the medium-sized company category, by the PA Department of Community and Economic Development, Great Places to Work Institute, Team Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Chamber of Business and Industry, and the Central Penn Business Journal.

August 2004: 

The York County Board of Commissioners was the recipient of the 2004 First Runner Up Road and Bridge Safety Award for the replacement of Bridge 69 in Hellam Township. C. S. Davidson, Inc., as Engineer of Record for York County, provided primary structural design services, contract administration, and inspection services for this project.

 

May 2004: 

The Federal Highway Administration recognized the Howard Tunnel Rehabilitation with their 2004 Transportation and Historic Preservation Excellence Award. The award was presented in the Small Historic Preservation Project category. The presentation was made to the York County Department of Parks and Recreation. This is the third award for the Howard Tunnel project for restoration of the historic structure which was completed in 2003. C.S. Davidson, Inc. served as Project Engineer to the York County Board of Commissioners.

April 2004: 

Preservation Pennsylvania in partnership with The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission presented a 2004 PENNSYLVANIA HISTORIC PRESERVATION AWARD in the Special Historic Properties Category to York County Department of Parks and Recreation for the restoration work on the Howard Tunnel. C.S. Davidson, Inc. served as Project Engineer and Historic York, Inc. as the Historic Preservation Consultant for this rehabilitative improvement to the historic railroad tunnel located along the York County Heritage Rail Trail.

 

Historic York, Inc. presented a 2003 PRESERVATION AWARD to York County Department of Parks and Recreation for the Howard Tunnel rehabilitation completed in 2003.  The award is intended to recognize projects that maintain the historical and architectural character of York County.  C. S. Davidson, Inc. served as Project Engineer on the improvements made to the historic railroad tunnel that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

 

December 2003:  C. S. Davidson, Inc. was honored for the fourth consecutive year as one of the 50 Best Places to Work in Pennsylvania in the Medium Sized Company category.

C. S. Davidson was recently recognized at the annual Best Places to Work awards dinner as being one of only eleven firms state-wide that have been honored in all four years of the contest.  The firm was ranked 40th in the medium-sized business category for 2003.  This ranking was based upon a review of the company's unique employee benefits and the completion of an Employee Trust Survey that measured the satisfaction level of the employees.  This state wide contest which is unique to the Commonwealth of PA is now four years old.  The employees of C. S. Davidson take pride in being one of only a handful of business to have been selected in all four years.

 

July 2003: 

HERITAGE RAIL TRAIL COUNTY PARK RECEIVES ANOTHER AWARD  Heritage Rail Trail County Park was recognized by the National Rails to Trails Conservatory and the American Society of Landscape Architects with a Rail Trail Design Recognition Award.  The award was presented at the TrailLink 2003 International Trails and Greenways Conference and was accepted by York County Rail Trail Authority Chairman Carl Knoch on behalf of the County of York.

 

The Heritage Rail Trail received the award in the category of bridge and tunnel conversions for demonstrating extraordinary diligence in preserving the architectural history of the Northern Central Railway through preservation, restoration, and adaptive reuse of the corridor's railroad bridges and the Howard Tunnel.  C. S. Davidson, Inc. served as the primary civil and structural design engineers on this project.

 

May 2003: 

C. S. DAVIDSON, INC. AND LOWER WINDSOR TOWNSHIP RECEIVE AWARD  The Board of Supervisors of Lower Windsor Township and C. S.  Davidson, Inc. were recently selected by the York County Planning Commission to receive a Municipal Planning Effort Award for their completion of the Township's 10-Year Comprehensive Plan.  The award was presented at the Planning Commission's Annual Dinner Meeting.  The Planning Department of C. S. Davidson, Inc. collaborated with Mark Platts of Platts/Simons and Yost Strodoski Mears on the revision of the Township's original 1989 document.  The updated plan was a work in progress for two years and involved significant public input from township residents.  The Township's first zoning ordinance was also recently approved by the Board of Supervisors in an effort to manage growth and preserve existing farmland.

 

December 2002:

C. S. Davidson, Inc. was recognized for the third consecutive year as one of the Best Places to Work in PA.  The annual award was presented by the PA Chamber of Business and Industry and the PA Department of Community and Economic Development at the awards dinner in December.  The firm was ranked 31st on "The 2002 List" of medium-sized companies by its employees.  The firm has placed among the top 20 companies in the first two years of the competition and was the top medium-sized York company on "The List" in 2001 and 2002.

 

May 2002:

C. S. Davidson, Inc. was named by the York County Chamber of Commerce and the Small Business Support Network as the 2002 Small Business of the Year.  The Small Business Tower Award was awarded to President, David M. Davidson, Jr., P.E. and represents the Tower of Strength to pursue success measured by management's leadership and employees who strive to make a difference.  Criteria for the award includes being a member of the York County Chamber of Commerce and a locally owned and privately held company with involvement in the community.  The company must have less than 100 employees, have been in business for a minimum of three years and have demonstrated growth in the number of employees and in total sales.  The firm was selected from four nominees for the award and was recognized at a luncheon on May 10th.
