Project Description:
C. S.
Davidson, Inc. designed a pedestrian bridge to carry
Appalachian Trail users safely across state route 225 at the
apex of Peters Mountain. The proposed bridge design consisted
of a weathering steel girder superstructure composite with a
reinforced concrete deck aesthetically form-lined and
pigmented with earth tones. The bridge will span
approximately 75 feet and is supported on reinforced concrete
stub abutments. The bridge significantly increases safety
both for motorists and the hiking public. A major design and
construction challenge for this project involved the
minimization of traffic impact on a high volume arterial with
narrow roadway shoulders.
