Project Description: C. S. Davidson, Inc., as a subconsultant to LSC Design, Inc., provided structural consulting and water and sanitary
engineering services for the design of the new Gettysburg National Battlefield Museum and Visitor Center. The new Visitor Center will be a 140,000 square foot building constructed of structural steel framing and composite concrete floors. The completed building will house Civil War artifact displays in the museum gallery, two educational movie theaters, a bookstore, a restaurant, and will also feature an 80’ high by 140’ diameter cylindrical structure that will house the newly restored Cyclorama painting.
C.S. Davidson prepared foundation and structural framing plans, specifications and details for the building, including efficient steel roof trusses for the unique tower and a series of steel braces and floor diaphragms throughout the structure to provide lateral support. C.S. Davidson’s civil engineers completed construction drawings and technical specifications for water and sewer main extensions, including a 115,000 gallon-per-day sanitary sewer pump station, to connect to the Gettysburg Municipal Authority System.
Construction on the project began in 2004, and is expected to be completed in 2007. C.S. Davidson is currently providing construction
inspection services for the project, including special inspection services per the 2003 International Building Code, and materials testing services, including paving, concrete and soils.
