Project Description: Glatfelter Insurance Group required a site design to allow for their business to remain open while site improvements were constructed in order to accommodate future office expansion. The improvements included gravity sanitary sewer resulting in the elimination of a pump station within the existing building, an expanded parking facility, creation of a level area for a significant building expansion in the future and stormwater management for the entire site.

The stormwater management design was intended to replace an undesirable basin while providing the additional storage required for the impervious areas proposed. In reviewing the site, wetlands were found within the bottom of a breached farm pond at the low end of the property. This area also represented the headwaters to a large drainage basin which was the focus of regional study to eliminate downstream flooding.

In reviewing the possibilities, a wet pond was designed and permitted that incorporated wetland mitigation on the edges of the basin. The basin was enlarged beyond the storage required for the site so as to overcontrol the outflow and reduce downstream flooding. Based on the basin providing regional flood control, York Township participated in the construction costs and supported the regulatory permitting process. The client now maintains the facility and has made it a proud component of the property.
