Project Description: On December 1, 2000, bids were received for construction of a public sanitary sewer system to serve an exclusive residential neighborhood in Spring Garden Township. The Wyndham Hills Sanitary Sewer District No. 3 includes approximately 22,600 lineal feet of 8" diameter mains, 4,700 lineal feet of 4" and 6" diameter laterals and 156 manholes. The project involved several service and mainline borings under Grantley Road (S.R. 4001) a state highway.
Sanitary sewers cross three major water transmission mains operated by The York Water Company. No blasting was permitted near the two 24" diameter ductile iron water mains and one 36" diameter concrete main. Blasting inside The York Water Company right-of-way
was monitored by seismograph. York Water Company personnel inspected sanitary sewer work underneath the water lines. Flowable fill was used to avoid damage to the mains due to vibration caused by compaction equipment. These crossings occurred between the water company's raw water in-take at Brillhart Station and the Grantley Road filtration and reservoir site. These three transmission lines serve over 200,000 persons in the greater York area. Construction began in mid-February and continued through mid-November, 2001. The project was ultimately financed by front foot assessments. Local residents may elect to finance the front-foot assessment over 40 quarters at 6% interest or make one lump-sum payment in 2002. |
