Project Description: Breidenbaugh Hall was originally constructed in 1927 and housed classrooms, offices, and laboratories for Gettysburg College. C.S. Davidson’s task was to completely renovate the interior of the structure, while maintaining the historic integrity of the building’s exterior. As part of the project, the entire attic space was developed into architecturally unique offices, lounges and study areas. C.S. Davidson designed structural steel supports to replace the original heavy wood beams, and the building’s mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems were relocated to open the space. The building was also carefully designed to house state-of-the-art data and networking connections.
C.S. Davidson also provided structural design services to open the main stairway by removing the enclosing walls and part of the second floor, and designed an elevator shaft to make the building handicap-accessible.
The Medical Arts Center at Boundary Avenue and South George Street is a 44,000 square foot two-story commercial office building which
houses medical and educational facilities for Wellspan Health, Penn StateYork Campus and York College. The brick masonry building forms the cornerstone of the revitalization effort in this south York neighborhood by providing needed health and educational services to this under-served area of the community. The architecture of the building was designed to seamlessly blend into the historic neighborhood, while providing a thoroughly modern and efficient workspace. Use of natural lighting was maximized through the use of the structural shear core system and long span masonry lintel to provide large open window areas. |
