Richard G. Resh Celebrates 45 Years with C.S. Davidson

As C.S. Davidson celebrates a milestone anniversary this year; so does its most senior employee, Richard G. Resh. Rick began his career with Carl Schaeffer Davidson and Donald W. Resh in 1965 while still in high school working for a rate of $1.25 per hour (minimum wage at the time). After graduating from Hanover High School in 1966, he attended York Junior College where he received an Associate Degree in Business Administration in 1968. Rick then transferred to Rider College (now Rider University) in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, where he graduated with a Business Administration major and Real Estate, Insurance, and History minors.

Very soon after graduation from Rider College, Rick was swept up in the Vietnam War conflict as he was enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in Jersey City, New Jersey.

Once away from the international conflict, Rick returned to York County, Pennsylvania, safe and sound and soon found himself back in the swing of things at C.S. Davidson. With a new bride, Sharon, daughter Valerie on the way, and sewer projects starting all over the south-central region, Rick quickly refocused and dove into everything with the passion he still has today.

Many things have changed in the 45 years Rick has spent with C.S. Davidson: from hand drafting (and a lot of erasing) to computer aided drafting; from mimeograph machines to fully integrated print/copy/scan technology; from an all cash environment (including paychecks) to electronic transactions - he has seen it all. One of the fondest advancements in technology for Rick was the integration of the electronic typewriter in the office. What a time saver it had to be in those days. Next came the new world of word processing, and, as you know, we’ve never looked back.

During his tenure, with the support of fellow C.S. Davidson employees, Rick has become passionate about activities such as volleyball, skiing and mountain biking. His adventurous spirit and love for skiing through dense, wooded areas lead him to jumping from a helicopter onto a mountain top in British Columbia. He originally started biking to keep in shape for the skiing season, but quickly realized that skiing doesn’t have a reciprocal effect on biking fitness. Even after years of participating in extreme sports, he is proud to say he has never broken a bone!

Rick also has a severe whoppie pie addiction – he’s often found returning from Central Market with an entire box; enjoys the art of tasting home brews; and has become quite the wine aficionado in recent years.

As we celebrate Rick’s 45 years with C.S. Davidson, we can’t help but look forward to many more years to come!

Testimonials:

David M. Davidson Jr., P.E., P.L.S., CFO from C.S. Davidson, Inc.

“Rick is without doubt the world’s leading authority on the complex interrelationships among York County Sewer Authorities. Rick is also one of the most organized people I know, which makes him a great project manager. He has always been a hard worker – he is frequently the first to arrive in the morning, and one of the last to leave.”

Jutta Creager, Executive Secretary from Eastern York County Sewer Authority

“The kind of person Rick is at work reflects on the type of person he is in general – very kind, compassionate and caring. When I was new to the industry, Rick took the time to show me the ins and outs of the business and made me feel more empowered and part of the team. It’s with this type of compassion that makes each and every day an enjoyable experience to work with Rick Resh.”
